Locations Mentioned during the Trial

Chris and Patricia's home
1492 Clearsprings Dr.
Medford, OR 97501
Patricia moved into this home in the summer of 2012, and Chris moved in with her on September 7, 2012.

On November 16, 2012, Chris and Patricia left their home in the late morning to go camping. First, they picked up Amber Lubbers, who was living with her husband's mother.

Amber Lubbers' home
613 Newtown St.
Medford, OR 97501
Chris and Patricia drove to where Amber was living in a converted garage at her mother-in-law's home. Patricia called (or texted) Amber in the morning to let her know that they would be coming to pick her up for the camping trip. It is chilling to realize that these two women knew that Chris would not be coming home.

Sherm's Food 4 Less
2230 Biddle Rd.
Medford, OR 97504
Chris, Patricia, and Amber stopped at Food 4 Less to pick up supplies for the camping trip. They bought fruit juice and Gatorade, firewood, milk, batteries, Tic Tacs, and roasting skewers. They paid for about half of their bill with food stamps. See Officer Travis Lee's testimony on Day 3 for a picture of Chris, Patricia, and Amber taken by the Food 4 Less security camera and a copy of the receipt of their purchases.

US Bank in Jacksonville

125 East California Street
Jacksonville, OR 97530
Patricia drove through downtown Jacksonville, on the way to the campground on the Applegate River. In the middle of downtown, US Bank has an ATM facing the main street. Patricia told investigators that she returned to the campground early in the morning on Saturday, November 17, 2012, the day after the murder. Investigators obtained the video from the ATM security camera for that time period and found that Patricia's car did not pass by the ATM during that morning. As the picture shows, it would be impossible to drive through downtown Jacksonville and not bee seen by the security camera. Later, she told investigators that was the only way she knew to get to the campground.

Ruch Country Store
7350 Highway 238
Jacksonville, OR 97530
After passing through Jacksonville, Chris, Patricia, and Amber stopped at the Ruch (pronounced Roosh) Country Store. The store is on Highway 238, just before the intersection with Upper Applegate Road, which would take them to the campsite. In her interview with investigators, Patricia told them that they each bought a burrito, Chris' last meal.

The campsite along the Applegate River

The Applegate River just above the falls.
Right from the beginning, Patricia gave investigators exact directions to the campsite where she had killed Chris. They are: Take Highway 238 through downtown Jacksonville. At Ruch, turn left onto Upper Applegate Road and follow it past Applegate Lake. When the road ends at the end of the lake, turn left. Just after the paved road turns into a dirt road, there is a parking area on the right. Enter that parking area and make a sharp right turn onto an unmarked dirt road that descends down to the river (on maps that is the 1040 road). Cross five bridges. About a mile after the fifth bridge, look for a narrow dirt road that goes downward and to the left. The far side of the intersection with this road is marked with a small pile of rocks.

campsite by his mother, Sarah.

In Google Earth, the campsite is approximately: 41° 58' 13.83" N, 123° 11' 22.79" W. This is a very remote spot with no cell phone coverage. If you decide to visit it, be sure to let someone know where you are going and when you are expected to return, so that if your car breaks down, they will know to send help. The 1040 road is in good shape with lots of gravel, so the traction is good even in the rain.

The pictures of the campsite were taken in November 2013, a year after Chris' death.

Jack in the Box
309 E Barnett Rd.
Medford, OR 97501
Once Patricia and Amber returned home from the campsite after killing Chris, they decided to go to Jack in the Box to try to establish some kind of alibi. Just a little after midnight, they purchased a shake and a smoothie. Patricia saved the receipt which was found by detectives when they searched her house on November 23, 2012. See Detective Jacques Morlet's testimony on Day 7 for the Jack in the Box receipt. If you think about it a minute, who saves fast food receipts? The very fact that it was so carefully saved so as to be found by investigators, is questionable.

St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store
2424 N. Pacific Highway
Medford, Oregon 97501
Once Amber Lubbers agreed to accept a plea bargain for her testimony, she told investigators that she took Chris' jacket and her boots to the St. Vincent de Paul thrift store. She said that she thought Chris' jacket was too good to just throw away. When Bonnie Mortensen was informed of this fact, she went to the St. Vincent de Paul thrift store and recovered Chris' jacket, which was subsequently identified as belonging to Chris by his mother, Sarah.

Amber Lubbers' current address

2545 Howard Ave.
Medford, Oregon 97501
After being released from the Siskiyou County Jail, having served just eight months of her 16-month sentence, Amber Lubbers moved into the home of her ex-husband's cousin, Kris Lubbers. During her testimony, Ms. Lubbers reported that she is sleeping with Kris Lubbers, with the knowledge and permission of his wife, who was bringing Ms. Lubbers to the Siskiyou County Court for her appearances.
